The annual Malahide Camera Club charity quiz took place in Malahide Rugby Club on Thursday 22nd October, 2015.
The committee this year decided the beneficiary would be “The Laura Brennan charitable Trust”.
You can read all about the trust on their website here: Laura Brennan
From their website: The ‘Laura Brennan Charitable Trust’ was setup to raise much needed funds for deserving causes within the local and surrounding communities. The fund has many aims and objectives but its principle goal is:
“To support Children up to the age of 18 years who may be suffering from serious , life threatening or life limiting illnesses within the local and surrounding communities”.
This year we had the largest turnout for our annual quiz hosted by our own brilliant quiz master Mr. Harry Reynolds. Harry has been preparing these quizzes for the last 18 years and he still never ceases to amaze people with his questions (and answers). We had 23 tables with an average of 4 people per table. The events committee (Bernie Joyce, Katy Swarbrigg & Yvette Gorman) organised everything to a tee. Our chairperson was unavailable so Paddy Meany, our secretary, stepped in as MC before handing over to Harry for the night. Score keeping was done by Paddy, Ita Martin (competition secretary, Cheryl Cox (former, secretary), and Tony Murray (Treasurer). It was great fun checking all the answers.
The committee & MCC would like to thank our suppliers and members for Spot Prizes donated. There was some eyebrows raised when 2 very large framed mirrors (you can see in pics below) were carted into the room. These were generously donated by Rory La Mont of GBS framing.
Pat Brennan (Laura’s father) spoke towards the end of the night to explain a bit about the charity.
In total €2,000 was raised, which has now been paid to the charity.
There was a tie for 1st place but it was ok because Harry had it covered in the event of a tie . . . . or so he thought . . . Incredibly both teams had the exact same criteria for a tiebreaker so we had to move to a numbers question to get an overall winner.
A huge thanks to all those that attended and bought raffle tickets, thanks also to our suppliers for their contributions. A massive thanks to the winnuing team for refunding their 1st prize of €100 so it could be returned to the Laura Brennan charity trust. Thanks also to Malahide Rugby club for the use of their room with no cover charge and to anyone else I have left off the thank you list that made this such a successful night.
And in another surprise from Harry he informed us all that he had been preparing these quizzes for the last 18 years and last nights quiz was a repeat of the exact same questions from the first years quiz
Below are some snapshots of the night.
Until next year . . .
